Solar Trash follows the mundane life of our protagonist, an unearthly space being, isolated on a desolate planet buried beneath earth’s garbage. The story captures an intimate moment of connection with a transient space blob, who traverses the universe in a flying dumpster. With trash as a motif, Solar Trash juxtaposes the temporality and permanence of both animate and inanimate beings. Addressing themes of loneliness, consumerism, love, choice and connection, Solar Trash utilizes stop motion animation to convey our deep longing for connection amidst a world that inhibits it. created as a music video for the band Lilex & the Apocalips.

Four friends with backgrounds in music, dance, and visual art came together with their mutual respect and excitement for stop motion with the goal of animating the world’s sickest music video, thus the Tr4sh Collective was born. Solar Trash is Tr4sh Collectives first animation together, and has inspired and affirmed our desire to continue to make art for connection and curiosity. Artists Isaiah Dmitri Dobbs Terrell, Kira Zamoyska Radosevic, Lexi Mellish Mingo, and Neil Ciccio Campbell all live and create on the Unceded and unsurrendered territories of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
